Limestone

From the Sea to Land

A fundamental stone in the formation of others, limestone is more than just shades of beige. Limestone is a sedimentary rock full of shells, coral, and other marine life that has been ground or dissolved by seawater and the earth’s geological movements. This calcite-rich stone is also home to many fossils, a unique characteristic that encapsulates history. Available in a variety of colours, limestone provides an authentic look and natural feel. Marble

An elegant stone of timeless beauty and longevity

After many transformations from its precursor, limestone, this metamorphic rock is made of one of the earth’s most abundant minerals: calcite. A marble composed solely of calcite serves as an ideal canvas for minerals such as iron oxide, serpentine, and carbon, resulting in exquisitely vibrant colored marbles. The characteristic veining known to captivate anyone who admires the stone is created by shifts in earth’s crust and mineral deposits fill the voids. After being fused together at extremely hot temperatures, these calcite minerals withstand the test of time and age with grace as organics react with the calcite. For a pristine look all year around, we recommend sealing your marble and caring for it regularly.

Dolomite

The softness of marble beautifully complemented by the presence of magnesium crystals, creating a brilliant and harmonious combination.

Dolomites: not a marble, but close! While dolomites aesthetically look quite like their well-known cousin marble, dolomite’s key difference is the crystalline structure present. In the case of dolomites, the calcite has been interwoven with layers of magnesium which creates small crystalline granules that strengthen the stone. Due to the calcite layers in dolomites, we recommend that, like marble, dolomites are sealed and cared for regularly to maintain its aesthetics.

Granite

The perfect fusion of igneous minerals

From magma comes granite; molten lava that has never erupted but has cooled below the earth’s surface. Its most common elements: quartz, feldspar, and mica, can vary not only in colour but in size and shape. From the time that the molten lava begins to cool, the stone’s properties begin to form. When lava cools rapidly, the granules in the granite will be small and uniform. If, however, the cooling period is slow and occurs over millions rather than thousands of years, the minerals will form large clusters and can vary greatly. Whether the minerals are fine or coarse grain, the properties of the granites are consistent in their density and durability. Due to their low-porosity and strength, they exhibit remarkable resistance against the wear and tear of daily living.

Quartzite

More than simply good looks, quartzite is one of the hardest natural stones available. Through the transformation of sandstone by fusion via extreme heat, the sandstone takes on a dense, grainy, and/or crystalline structure known as quartzite. Wild, exotic-looking quartzites contain layers of minerals like schist or gneiss that give the stone eye-catching, unique patterns. The high-heat, high-compression environment that quartzites are formed in allows for the stone to have low-absorbency and high durability for a variety of applications.
